Part 24: Prophecy and Tongues- Part 1

May 3, 2026    Matt Rummage

When we gather as the body of Christ, what should be our highest priority? This powerful exploration of 1 Corinthians 14 challenges us to examine whether our gatherings truly reflect God's character and build up His people. The central message is clear: love and edification must govern everything we do when we come together. We're reminded that prophecy—speaking truth that builds up, encourages, and strengthens others—should be our greatest desire.

This isn't about predicting the future, but about speaking life-giving words that align with Scripture and bless those around us. The text confronts a crucial reality: we live in a world that tears people down constantly, but as believers, we're called to a radically different standard. Our gatherings aren't meant to be chaotic emotional experiences that leave people confused, but times of clear, understandable teaching that equips us to be light in a dark world. The urgency is real—we don't have time to waste on self-focused spirituality when a broken world desperately needs the hope of Jesus.

This message calls us to prioritize intelligible speech over impressive displays, mutual edification over personal experience, and the mission of making disciples over building our own reputations. Are we willing vessels, ready to go where God sends us and say what He tells us to say?
