Part 1: His Cup

Mar 22, 2026    Andrew Patrick

This powerful message challenges us to examine whether we truly love Jesus or merely appreciate what He can do for us. Walking through Matthew's Gospel, we're confronted with a sobering question: If heaven offered everything we desire—no pain, no sickness, perfect relationships—but Jesus wasn't there, would we still want it? The honest answer for many reveals a heartbreaking truth about modern Christianity. We've made Jesus a means to an end rather than the prize itself. The sermon traces Jesus's journey from His birth as the rightful King of Israel through His rejection by the very people He came to save. In Matthew 12, when the Pharisees attributed His miracles to Satan rather than the Holy Spirit, everything changed. The kingdom that was 'at hand' was postponed. Jesus could have reigned immediately. He was worthy, He had the authority, He had proven His identity through countless miracles. Yet He chose to lay down His crown to pick up the cross. Every single day of His earthly life, Jesus drank from a cup of suffering, living in perfect holiness without a single misstep. One sin would have disqualified Him as our sacrifice. The weight of that perfection, sustained day after day, reveals a love far deeper than we often acknowledge. This isn't about religious activity or church attendance, it's about recognizing that Jesus isn't just our provider; He is the provision itself.
