Part 2: God's Word Must Set the Standard
What does it mean for God's Word to be the true standard for our lives and our church? That question sits at the heart of this message drawn from 1 Timothy 1:3-11. Just as a brick mason does not rely on appearances alone but pulls a plumb line to determine whether a wall is truly straight, we are reminded that the church cannot measure its health by what sounds good, what feels popular, or even what seems to be working. There is a fixed standard outside of ourselves, and that standard is the Word of God. The message walks us through Paul's urgent charge to Timothy to ensure that nothing other than sound doctrine is taught in Ephesus, and it challenges us to ask the same question of ourselves today. Are we so familiar with the genuine truth of Scripture that we can immediately recognize when something does not belong? The warning is clear: it is entirely possible to drift from God's standard gradually, building a great deal of wall before the problem becomes impossible to ignore. This is a call for us to anchor ourselves deeply in Scripture, not for the sake of accumulating knowledge, but so that our lives are genuinely transformed by what we believe.
